HOW TO PRESERVE BRANCHES FOR ARRANGEMENTS AND WREATHS
In a few months, we will be engaged in festivities and family reunions…. arrives at Christmas. Doors and walls are decked with wreaths, while tables are ornamented with natural branch pathways and centerpieces.
For example, eucalyptus, pine, holly, grapevine, olive tree, or red berries will be used prominently in the decorating. With all the effort required to create a gorgeous wreath or centerpiece, it is unfortunate that its beauty will only last a short period. If you do not act quickly, it will wilt before Christmas.
“This is why I’m going to share a tutorial with you today on how to preserve the flowers and keep our wreaths and arrangements looking beautiful for a longer period.
Materials:
– Steamed water
– Vegetable glycerin
– Gardening scissors
– Vase or jar
– Bowl
1.-Trim the limbs:
We begin by trimming the branches to a consistent length. Once the branches have been properly maintained, they may be trimmed to the size that best complements your floral or vegetative arrangement.
Remove rotting leaves:
Removing the withered or dead leaves is preferable, as they will not be adequately kept and will give the leaves that will be retained in pristine condition after treatment an unsightly aspect.
3.-Trim the undersides of the branches:
Cut the lower ends of each branch at an angle, exposing the top of the branch to the preservation solution and allowing the solution to flow up the branch.
4. Prepare the solution of glycerin:
In a dish, combine the water and glycerin in a ratio of two parts water to one part glycerin.
After thoroughly combining the liquid, pour it into a tall container or vase.
5.-Place the twigs into the jar or vase:
Ensure that the branches are straight and not crowded together, i.e., that there is room between them.
Let the branches soak in the solution for four weeks:
Depending on the type of branch and its size, the process of preserving branches might take up to five weeks.
Find a cool, dark location to store them for these weeks, and check on them often. For instance, if you wish to preserve eucalyptus branches, you will know it is time to take them from the water and flickering mixture when the leaves are consistently darker and softer.
Your branches will be prepared to make Christmas arrangements with them if you begin now.
7. Finally, cut the stem end once more:
The lower ends will darken during storage, so cutting them will make the branches more aesthetically pleasing. This step will also eliminate any surplus glycerin not absorbed throughout the procedure.
