Five strategies for maintaining motivation when times are rough

You understand the procedure. You establish a goal, something you wish to accomplish. You’re enthusiastic and eager to conquer the world, but after a few months, you only spend 10 minutes working toward your goal.

It is so simple to move from enthusiasm to giving up. However, there are steps you can take to ensure you remain motivated to achieve your objectives. There is a phrase by Zig Ziglar that you should never forget:

« Some assert that motivation is fleeting. Neither does bathing, which is why we advocate everyday bathing !»

Here are five techniques to maintain motivation through difficult times:

1. Don’t forget your “WHY.”

When you feel exhausted and want to give up, pause and consider why you are doing what you are doing. Your “whys” determine the intensity of your aspirations and your ability to persevere when obstacles arise. Eventually, your “why” will decide your likelihood of success, so be sure it’s substantial.

2. Maintain your attention.

It is crucial to understand not only why you are doing something, but also all the benefits that are reaching that objective will bring to you, your family, or your job. Keep sight of your goal: when you begin to feel like giving up, STOP and ask yourself:

What rewards will it bring me?

How will it affect me, my family, and my friends?

What influence will this have on my job or career?

It is simpler to maintain motivation when you are aware of the benefits that will result from attaining your goals.

3. Always be optimistic.

When you are continuously optimistic, your perspective shifts, which enables you to remain motivated when the going gets tough. When you allow negative thoughts to enter your mind, you slam on the brakes and come to a halt; thus, you should not waste a second on anything that does not contribute to your goal. Is there a possibility of failure? A positive attitude will enable you to discover the resources necessary to conquer any difficulty that may arise.

4. Discover your inspiration.

It is normal to lose motivation when things do not go as planned. What do you do in this situation? Watch an inspiring video or read something uplifting. It functions. And you deserve an occasional lift. When I read a motivating article or view a movie with an inspiring tale, I receive the boost I need to continue pushing myself. You have countless possibilities, so there is no reason not to be inspired.

5. Always remind yourself to do so.

Maintain your motivation by posting reminders of your goals on your bathroom mirror, mobile device, or computer screen. The more locations you can display reminders or images of your objectives or their rewards, the better. This will help your unconscious mind provide the desired results and keep you motivated and focused on reaching your goals.

What if, despite this, nothing works out?

Please do not be too critical of yourself. We all fall short occasionally. Consider your failure to complete something as a valuable lesson. Learn from your mistakes so that your next obstacle will make you more resilient and better equipped.
